Home and Everyday Guides

These guides answer the one question that usually decides whether an everyday item works for you: will it fit? You'll learn how to check screw length before installing drawer knobs, how far apart to place plant clips, what pick thickness means for your playing, how to size gel toe caps, how to put cuffs on braids, which reading accessory suits your books, which push pins suit which board, and how to measure a straw for a topper. Pick the guide that matches the item you are looking at.

What you'll learn

  • Measure first: the one measurement that decides fit for each item, such as drawer thickness, straw width or toe size.
  • Install and set up: step-by-step instructions for knobs, plant clips and hair cuffs.
  • Choose between options: thin, medium or heavy picks; a page holder or a corner bookmark; which pins for cork, felt or bulletin board.
  • Know the limits: surfaces where adhesive won't hold, straws a topper won't fit, and what a cushioning accessory can and can't do.

Numbers from our own products

The guides use the specifications of the items we sell as worked examples. Our heart ceramic knobs come with 1.06 in screws for single-hole fronts 0.59 to 0.86 in thick. The plant clips come in three openings, 0.39, 0.59 and 0.78 in, with 10 of each. The pick sampler has seven picks in each of 0.46, 0.71 and 0.96 mm. The flower toppers fit straight straws 10 mm across, the gel toe caps are about 0.98 x 0.59 in, and the corner bookmarks slide over 1 to 5 pages.

Limits to know before you buy

Some items aren't the right choice for every job. Adhesive plant clips won't hold on rough brick or textured walls. A straw topper covers the tip but doesn't seal the cup. A thumb page holder is easiest with paperbacks and can struggle with stiff hardcovers. Gel toe caps are a comfort layer between toe and shoe, not a treatment; persistent foot pain is a reason to see a podiatrist.

Keep steel-point push pins and small hair charms away from young children.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if a drawer knob screw is long enough?

The screw has to pass through the drawer front and still reach well into the knob. Measure the front's thickness first; our heart knobs suit single-hole fronts 0.59 to 0.86 in thick with the included 1.06 in screws.

What guitar pick thickness should a beginner use?

Thin picks around 0.46 mm flex for strumming, medium around 0.71 mm balance control, and heavy around 0.96 mm give a firmer attack. A sampler lets you try all three.

Will a straw topper fit any tumbler?

It depends on the straw, not the cup. Our flower toppers fit straight straws that measure 10 mm (0.4 in) across the outside.

Do plant wall clips work on any wall?

No. The adhesive needs a clean, dry, smooth, non-porous surface such as glass, metal, marble or finished wood, and the clips are for light vines like pothos and ivy.
