Happy Birthday Balloon

For a single balloon that announces the birthday on its own, start with the 30 x 24 in Happy Birthday smiley balloon, the pick ordered most often from this search: a yellow smiley face, a blue message bubble and a cake wearing a colorful party hat, large enough to read from across the room. If the family celebrates in Spanish, the Feliz Cumpleaños gift box balloon (24 x 20 in) carries the greeting in turquoise and red. Each pick is one foil balloon with a self-sealing valve, so plan one per focal spot rather than a bunch.

  1. Ordered most from this search: a 30 x 24 in yellow smiley with a blue message bubble and a cake wearing a party hat.

  2. A 22.4 x 14.5 in cake-with-candles shape that hangs on air or floats on helium, with 33 ft of white ribbon included.

  3. Feliz Cumpleaños on a 24 x 20 in turquoise-and-red gift box shape; air to hang or helium to float, 33 ft ribbon.

What to look for

  • Hang the message where the camera points: behind the cake or above the gift table puts the words in nearly every photo, while a balloon drifting at the ceiling usually gets cropped out.
  • Only helium makes a foil balloon float, and the smiley's own note says air will not lift it. Filled with air, the cake and Feliz Cumpleaños balloons become wall or backdrop pieces; filling foil balloons without helium shows how.
  • Fill to firm, not drum-tight: inflate slowly and stop once the creases mostly smooth out, which is what the cake balloon's directions ask for too.
  • Each pick is one balloon plus ribbon, 33 ft of it with the cake and Feliz Cumpleaños balloons. The Feliz Cumpleaños listing notes that pump and helium are not included, so line those up before party day.
  • If you would rather a shape say it, the cake balloon with candles fits a dessert table or cake smash; funny and animal shapes such as a snail are on our birthday balloons page.
  • Leave setup to an adult, keep uninflated foil and loose ribbon away from small children, and trim long ribbon tails once the balloon is in place.

Frequently asked questions

Will a happy birthday balloon float if I fill it with air?

No. Foil balloons float only with helium, and the smiley balloon's own note says it will not float with air. Filled with air, the cake and Feliz Cumpleaños balloons are meant to hang from their ribbon or sit taped to a wall or backdrop.

How big is a large happy birthday balloon?

The largest pick here is the smiley balloon at 30 x 24 in (about 76 x 61 cm). The Feliz Cumpleaños gift box is 24 x 20 in (about 61 x 51 cm) and the cake is 22.4 x 14.5 in (about 57 x 37 cm). All three are made to hang or float; the cake listing states plainly that it is not a floor-standing balloon.

Is there a happy birthday balloon in Spanish?

Yes. The Feliz Cumpleaños balloon is a 24 x 20 in gift box shape in turquoise and red, sold as one foil balloon with 33 ft of curling ribbon. Fill it with air to hang or helium to float; the pump and helium are not included.

Does a happy birthday balloon suit a man or an adult birthday?

Yes. The Feliz Cumpleaños balloon is listed for women, men and kids, and the cake balloon for adult milestones as well as kids' birthdays. The smiley balloon's cake-and-party-hat art is playful, and its listing names milestone birthdays alongside kids' parties.

How early can I inflate it?

As general guidance, foil holds helium for days rather than hours, so inflating the evening before is a common plan; heat and cold change that. The smiley balloon is made with heat-sealed edges for display over multiple days. Keep any foil balloon away from heaters and sharp edges.
