A 33.4 in (about 85 cm) plastic grim reaper scythe prop with an aged gold skull, a curved blade with saw-tooth notches and a spiral-wrapped black shaft, built from four screw-together parts.

  • 33.4 in (about 85 cm) assembled: a carry-in-hand size, not floor length
  • Aged gold skull and curved blade with saw-tooth notches along the back
  • Black shaft with raised spiral wrapping and a short spiked end piece
  • 4 parts screw together by hand and come apart again for storage
  • Lightweight plastic for kids and adults; a prop for posing, not striking

What does this grim reaper scythe prop look like up close?

This grim reaper scythe prop is gold and black: an aged gold skull and curved blade sit on top of a black staff, and the whole piece measures 33.4 in (about 85 cm) once assembled. It is molded plastic, light enough to hold through a party, and sized to carry in one hand rather than plant on the floor like a tall staff.

The detail is what makes it work in photos. The gold finish has dark accents worked into it, a row of saw-tooth notches runs along the back edge of the blade, raised spiral wrapping winds down the shaft, and a short spiked piece caps the bottom end. If you searched for a black and gold scythe, this is that color scheme, with the skull as the focal point.

Is a 33.4-inch scythe big enough for an adult?

It works as a handheld scythe for adults. With the end resting on the floor, 33.4 in comes up to around hip height on many adults, so the usual pose is holding it upright at your side or angled across your body with the blade near your shoulder. On a child about 4 ft (122 cm) tall it reaches roughly to the chest, which makes it a big but manageable prop for a kids' grim reaper costume.

If you want a scythe that stands taller than your head, this is not that prop. Compare the length with the wearer's height before you choose.

Pick this one if a skull is part of your look. The 31.8 in Inxens grim reaper staff is the slightly shorter option and lists its blade size, which helps when you are sizing a prop for a child. Our grim reaper costume guide covers robes, hoods and how scythe length changes the silhouette.

What's in the box and how does it go together?

You get one scythe in four parts: the skull-and-blade head, two long shaft sections and the short spiked end piece. Line up the threads and twist each joint by hand; no tools are involved. Before photos, give each joint one more turn so the head faces the way you want. To pack it, unscrew in reverse and keep the four parts together in one bag.

The robe, hood and any other costume pieces are not included.

Costume ideas

  • Classic reaper: a black hooded robe and black gloves let the gold skull stand out.
  • Demon reaper: add black glitter devil horn clips near the hood edge for a darker twist.
  • Haunted house or stage role: the lightweight plastic is easy to hold while you stay in character.
  • Original fantasy character: the saw-tooth blade and spiked end suit a made-up villain as well as a classic reaper.

Use notes

This is a lightweight plastic prop for posing and display. It is not for cutting, striking or play fighting, and the spiked end piece is part of the look, not something to poke with. Kids can carry it with an adult nearby. Taking it to a school event or convention? Read our notes on prop rules at conventions and schools first.

Frequently asked questions

How long is this grim reaper scythe prop?

33.4 in (about 85 cm) with all four parts screwed together. That makes it a handheld scythe; it will not stand taller than an adult.

Is it gold or black?

Both. The skull and blade have an aged gold finish with dark accents, and the shaft is black with raised spiral wrapping. If you searched for a black and gold scythe, this is that color scheme.

Is it easy to assemble?

Yes. The four parts have threaded joints that you twist together by hand, with no tools. They unscrew the same way for storage.

Can kids use it for a grim reaper costume?

Yes, it is made for kids and adults. On a child about 4 ft tall it reaches roughly chest height, so it is a big prop for a small trick-or-treater; have an adult nearby and keep it to holding and posing.

Is the blade sharp?

No. The blade, the saw-tooth notches and the spiked end are molded plastic for looks. It is a costume prop, not for cutting, striking or play fighting.

Is the robe included?

No. The package contains the scythe only, in four parts. Plan your own hooded robe or cloak.

How is it different from the Inxens gold scythe?

This one is 33.4 in with a gold skull at the top, a saw-tooth blade back and a spiked end. The Inxens grim reaper staff is 31.8 in, with a 13.3 x 4.7 in antique-gold blade and a textured black handle.
