A black plastic costume cane in three screw-together pieces: use all three for 35 in (about 89 cm) or two for 25 in (about 64 cm), so one prop covers adult and kids' costumes.

  • 35 in (about 89 cm) with 3 pieces, 25 in (about 64 cm) with 2
  • Plain black finish for magician, vampire, wizard and gentleman looks
  • Screws together by hand in seconds; no tools
  • Breaks down into 3 short pieces for bags, cars and storage
  • Lightweight plastic prop, not for walking support

Which length do you need for your black cane costume?

This black cane costume prop gives you two lengths from one set: all three pieces make a 35 in (about 89 cm) cane, and two pieces make a 25 in (about 64 cm) cane. The same prop can finish an adult's costume one night and a kid's the next, and it comes apart again afterward.

A useful rule of thumb: a costume cane looks natural when the top sits near the wearer's wrist with arms relaxed, which is roughly half of body height. By that measure, 35 in suits most teens and adults, and 25 in suits children around 4 ft (122 cm) tall. Somewhere in between? Pick whichever length looks right in a mirror; with a prop, fit is about looks, not support.

Is it a real walking cane?

No. It is a plastic costume cane for character styling, photos, the stage and trick-or-treating. Do not lean on it or use it for balance or walking support. If you were searching for a wooden cane, note that this one is plastic, which keeps it light to carry all evening.

Which costumes does a black cane suit?

  • Magician or circus showman: pair it with a top hat and cape, or a tailcoat for the ring.
  • Classic vampire: a high-collared cape and white vampire fangs; more ideas are on our vampire canes page.
  • 1920s gentleman or old man: suspenders, a bow tie and a hat. The 25 in setup fits a kid dressed as a grandpa for a school dress-up day.
  • Wizard or witch: a pointed hat such as a purple witch hat with gold stars turns the plain black cane into a simple wizard staff accessory.

How do the three pieces go together?

The sections have threaded ends that screw together by hand in a few seconds; there are no tools or instructions to follow. For the 25 in version, join just two pieces. To travel, unscrew all three and slip them into a backpack or costume bag, which helps at conventions, theater rehearsals and parties where a full-length prop is awkward to carry.

Choose black for dark, formal and spooky looks. When the costume is bright and circus-themed, the red costume cane with a J-hook handle is the better match.

Use and care notes

The cane is made for novelty costume use only. Hold it and pose with it, but don't put your weight on it. Keep the three pieces together between events so none go missing, and if it is going to a school or convention, check the organizer's prop rules first.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the black cane?

35 in (about 89 cm) with all three pieces screwed together, or 25 in (about 64 cm) with two. One set gives you both lengths, one at a time.

Can I use it as a walking cane?

No. It is a lightweight plastic prop for costumes and photos only. It is not designed for walking support or balance.

Is it a wooden cane?

No, it is plastic. That keeps it light to carry and lets it unscrew into three pieces for travel.

Is it a good cane for kids?

For costume use, yes: with two pieces it is 25 in, a length meant for kids' costumes. Children should carry and pose with it, not lean on it or use it for play fighting.

Which costumes go with a black cane?

Magician, wizard, classic vampire, 1920s gentleman, circus showman and old-man costumes are the usual matches. A plain black cane goes with most formal or dark outfits.

Do I need tools to put it together?

No. The pieces screw together by hand in seconds and unscrew the same way for storage.

Is there a red version?

Yes. Our red costume cane has a J-hook handle and the same 35 in and about 25 in length options, aimed at ringmaster, clown and other circus looks.
