A 31.8 in (about 81 cm) plastic grim reaper staff with an antique-gold curved blade measuring 13.3 x 4.7 in on a textured black handle, built from four screw-together parts for kids and adults.

  • 31.8 in (about 81 cm) assembled, a compact handheld scythe
  • Antique-gold curved blade, 13.3 x 4.7 in, with dark weathered detailing
  • Black handle textured for a wrapped-grip look
  • 1 blade head + 3 handle sections, screwed together by hand
  • Plastic costume prop for kids and adults; not a toy, not for swinging

What size is this grim reaper staff?

This grim reaper staff measures 31.8 in (about 81 cm) assembled, with a curved gold-colored blade 13.3 in long and 4.7 in wide (about 34 x 12 cm). It is plastic, light to carry, and sized as a handheld scythe for kids and adults rather than a floor-length prop that towers over the wearer.

That compact length is the main reason to choose it. On a child about 4 ft (122 cm) tall it reaches around waist to lower-chest height with the end on the ground, so a young trick-or-treater can hold it upright at their side. On many adults it comes to about hip height and reads as a carried scythe in photos.

What does the gold scythe look like?

The blade is an antique gold color with dark weathered detailing rather than a bright, flat gold. The black handle has a raised texture molded in to suggest a wrapped grip. Together they suit a death character, a demon look or a medieval-style outfit, and the gold blade stands apart from a black robe.

Choose this staff for the shorter length and a published blade size you can plan around. Choose the Boieo gold skull scythe if a sculpted skull belongs in your close-up shots. For silver, black and glow-in-the-dark options, browse our grim reaper scythes.

How do the four parts go together?

The staff comes as one blade head, two handle sections and one short end section. Twist the threaded joints together by hand, with no tools, then snug each one before photos so the blade faces the way you want. Unscrew it the same way to store it; the separate pieces fit in a costume bag more easily than the assembled staff.

Costume ideas

  • Kid reaper: a black hooded cape plus a Halloween projector flashlight for the walk between houses.
  • Demon: clip red devil horn hair clips into the hair and let the gold blade carry the rest.
  • Medieval character: a plain tunic or cloak, with the scythe held upright at your side.
  • Women's grim reaper: a hooded black dress or cloak; the compact length keeps the prop in proportion.

Use notes

This is a costume prop only, not a toy and not a tool. Use it for dress-up and posed photos, not for swinging, striking or leaning on. If you bring it to a school event or convention, check the organizer's prop policy ahead of time.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the grim reaper staff?

31.8 in (about 81 cm) with all four parts assembled. The curved blade is 13.3 in long and 4.7 in wide.

Is this scythe a good size for kids?

It is made for kids and adults, and at 31.8 in it is the shorter of our two gold scythes, which makes it easier for a child to carry. It is still a costume prop, not a toy, so keep it to holding and posing with an adult nearby.

Is the blade real gold or metal?

No. The whole staff is plastic. The blade is colored antique gold with dark weathered detailing to give it an aged look.

Does it come apart?

Yes. It has one blade head, two handle sections and one short end section that screw together by hand and unscrew for storage. No tools needed.

Can I use it for a demon costume?

Yes. The gold blade works for a demon or devil look as well as a classic grim reaper; add horns and a dark cape. It also fits a medieval-style outfit.

Is the blade sharp?

No. It is molded plastic for looks. Don't swing it, strike with it or lean on it.

What's the difference between this and the Boieo gold scythe?

This staff is 31.8 in, with a published blade size of 13.3 x 4.7 in and a black wrapped-grip handle. The Boieo scythe is 33.4 in and adds a gold skull, a saw-tooth blade back and a spiral-wrapped shaft with a spiked end.
