What are gel toe caps for?

Gel toe caps are soft silicone sleeves for small toes that rub against shoe linings. Each cap is closed at one end, so it covers the tip and the nail edge, while the clear, perforated wall sits between the toe and the shoe. Think of them as a cushioning layer for friction. They are not a brace, a corrective device or a treatment.

Will they fit my toe?

Each cap measures about 0.98 x 0.59 in (2.5 x 1.5 cm). That suits a pinky (fifth) toe or another small toe, and the silicone stretches to hug it. They are not made to cover a big toe.

How do you put them on?

1. Start with a clean, dry foot.
2. Fold back the open edge slightly, set the closed end on the tip of your toe, and ease the cap down.
3. Smooth out any folds so the wall lies flat; a wrinkle can rub more than it helps.
4. Put on your sock and shoe, then walk a few steps to check the cap doesn't slide or pinch.

Which shoes can you wear them with?

High heels, dress shoes, running shoes, hiking shoes, work shoes and other sports footwear, as long as there's enough room in the toe box. The caps are clear and use no adhesive, so they stay discreet when a toe is visible and leave no sticky residue when you take them off.

Who should not rely on them?

If a toe is broken, injured or swollen, or if it hurts for more than a few days, see a podiatrist or doctor instead of covering it up. The same goes for a toe that is changing shape, such as a hammer toe. A cap can make a shoe feel softer against the skin, but it does not change the toe or its position. How do you clean and reuse them?
