Two rolls of clear, food-grade PET acetate cake collar, one 3 in and one 4 in wide, each 32.8 ft (10 m) long and 125 microns thick, so you can match the collar height to each chilled dessert.

  • 2 rolls: 3 in and 4 in wide, 32.8 ft (10 m) each
  • 65.6 ft of acetate in total, about 38 strips for 6 in rings
  • 125 microns (about 4.9 mil) food-grade PET
  • Use the two widths together for cakes up to about 6 in tall
  • Smooth, clear film peels cleanly and suits chocolate work
  • Cut to any length with scissors

Why get both 3 in and 4 in acetate cake collars?

This set gives you two rolls of clear acetate cake collar, one 3 in wide and one 4 in wide, each 32.8 ft (10 m) long, for 65.6 ft in total. Most chilled desserts land at one of those two heights, so you can match the collar to each cake instead of trimming a wide roll every time. Both rolls are food-grade PET, 125 microns thick.

Stacking the two widths for an extra-tall cake

For a cake taller than 4 in, line the ring with a 4 in strip and build the first layers. Then slide a 3 in strip between the ring and the first collar, overlapping it by about an inch, so the wall rises with the cake. With that overlap the combined wall stands close to 6 in. Tape both seams on the outside face and chill as usual.

If you would rather have one seamless wall, a single 5 in acetate roll covers cakes up to about 4.5 in.

How far does the set go?

Strip length is the ring's diameter times 3.14, plus 1 to 2 in of overlap. Each roll gives about 19 strips for 6 in rings or about 14 for 8 in rings, so the pair covers roughly 38 six-inch or 28 eight-inch desserts, split between the two heights. When one width runs out first, a single 3 in roll or 4 in roll restocks it.

What 125 microns means

125 microns is 0.125 mm, or about 4.9 mil. That is a fairly firm film for mousse and layer cakes: it curves around a ring yet holds a straight wall while the dessert sets in the fridge. If you have used 4.75 mil acetate before, this is very close. Thinner films wrap tiny desserts more easily but can buckle under a heavy filling.

Cutting, release and chocolate work

Cut strips with sharp scissors against a ruler. Once the dessert is fully chilled, the smooth face peels away cleanly without tearing a mousse wall or smudging decorations. The same surface leaves tempered chocolate glossy, so spare strips are handy for chocolate bands and shards.

Use the rolls for chilled and cold-set work, not in the oven. Store them in their packaging or a flat box at room temperature, away from heat and sunlight, so they stay flat and clear.

Frequently asked questions

What comes in the set?

Two rolls of clear acetate cake collar: one 3 in x 32.8 ft and one 4 in x 32.8 ft. That is 65.6 ft of acetate in total.

Is 125 micron acetate the same as 4.75 mil?

Very close. 125 microns is about 4.9 mil, and 4.75 mil is about 121 microns, so the two handle almost the same in a cake ring.

How do I make a cake taller than 4 inches?

Line the ring with a 4 in strip, build the first layers, then slide a 3 in strip between the ring and the first collar with about 1 in of overlap. The combined wall reaches close to 6 in.

Can I use these for chocolate work?

Yes. The smooth, clear surface gives tempered chocolate a glossy finish. Spread chocolate on a strip, wrap it around a chilled cake, and peel the film once the chocolate sets.

Is the acetate food grade?

Yes. Both rolls are food-grade PET made for direct contact with food, and the film does not add any taste to desserts.

Can the collars go in the oven?

No. Use them for chilled and cold-set desserts. Bake and cool any cake layers first, then assemble them inside the collar and chill.

Will the collar stick to mousse?

Not once the mousse is fully set. Chill until firm, lift the ring, and peel the acetate back slowly along the seam while the dessert is still cold.
