What's in this pirate wig set?

Three pieces: a black wavy wig, a red bandana head scarf and a skull-decorated eye patch. The wig's waves fall to about chest length, and it's made from high-temperature synthetic fiber on an elastic mesh cap. Wear all three together, or use the bandana or the eye patch on its own for a different look. Clothing and props are not part of the set.

Pirate wig for women, men and kids: will it fit?

The mesh cap stretches to fit most head sizes, and the set is meant for adult women and men as well as children. If you're shopping for a plus-size or XS pirate costume, note that this set is worn on the head only, so your clothing size doesn't matter; the stretch cap does the fitting. Pair it with your own pirate clothes in whatever size you wear.

How to put on a pirate wig with a bandana

1. Flatten your own hair: pin it close to the head, and put long hair in a low bun.
2. Hold the wig by the back of the cap, set the front edge at your hairline and pull it down over the back of your head.
3. Shift it until it sits evenly, then tuck any stray hair under the edges.
4. Tie the red bandana over the top, knotted at the back or to one side.
5. Add the eye patch last so its strap sits over the wig.

Pirate costume ideas

• Women's pirate: a white blouse, a vest or corset-style top, a long skirt or leggings and boots.
• Men's pirate: a loose white shirt, a sash at the waist and dark pants tucked into boots.
• Kids: a striped tee with the bandana; skip the eye patch if it bothers them.
• Group or family costume: everyone wears a bandana, and the captain gets the wig.

Eye patch and kids

An eye patch blocks vision on one side. Kids should take it off on stairs, at curbs and when crossing streets, and an adult should stay close while they wear it.

Care and storage

Detangle with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb, working from the ends up toward the cap. Although the fiber is a high-temperature type, we don't publish a safe styling temperature, so skip curling irons and hot tools, or test the lowest setting on a hidden strand first. Store the wig in a hairnet or bag, laid flat or on a wig stand, with the bandana and eye patch in the same bag so the set stays together.
