A dog birthday crown for photos, not all-day wear

This gold dog birthday crown is a small photo prop for a pet's birthday, gotcha day or adoption anniversary. It sits on top of the head and stays in place with a white elastic strap that runs under the chin, with a sliding toggle to take up the slack. It's meant for a few minutes of photos at a time, not for wearing through the whole party.

The crown is felt with a gold glitter finish, so it's light and soft rather than a stiff costume piece. Gold reads as neutral, so it suits any pet, whether you're planning a party for a boy or a girl.

Will the crown fit my dog or cat?

The crown is sized small. It's made for small dogs, toy breeds, puppies, cats and kittens. Exact crown and strap measurements aren't published, so compare the product photos with your pet before you buy.

Two measurements help: the width across the top of the head between the ears, and the distance around the head and under the chin where the strap will sit. On a medium or large dog, expect the crown to look like a tiny topper, and the strap may not reach comfortably.

Once it's on, the strap should be snug enough to keep the crown upright but loose enough to slide a finger or two underneath. That's a common rule of thumb for anything worn around a pet's head or neck.

How to put it on

1. Take the crown out flat and gently shape it into a ring before the party.
2. Loosen the toggle all the way.
3. Let your pet sniff it, then set it on top of the head and bring the strap under the chin.
4. Slide the toggle up until the crown stays upright, then check the finger gap.
5. Take your photos, then take the crown off.

Several short tries with treats on hand usually go better than one long session. If your pet paws at the crown, shakes its head or freezes, take it off and try again later, or photograph the crown placed beside them instead.

Pet safety

Stay with your pet the whole time the crown is on. Take it off before play, walks, meals, crate time or any time you step away, and don't let your pet chew it. It's a decorative prop, not a toy or a garment for long wear.
