What this field hockey stick grip is

This field hockey stick grip kit replaces a worn, slippery or thin handle wrap with fresh cushioned PU. Each of the two black wraps is 110 cm (about 43 in) long and 2.5 cm (about 1 in) wide, with a perforated surface and a raised orange ridge down the center. Wrapped in a spiral, that ridge builds thickness and leaves a ridged contour under your hands. The pack includes two wraps and two black finishing strips.

Grip tape, chamois or sleeve: which is this?

Players shopping for field hockey grip tape run into a few different products. This one is a spiral PU wrap.

TypeWhat it isThis product?
PU wrapSynthetic strip spiral-wrapped up the handleYes
Chamois gripSoft, suede-like wrapNo
Preformed sleeveA tube that slides or rolls onto the handleNo
Cloth hockey tapeThin tape used on an ice hockey bladeNo

If you specifically want the feel of chamois, this isn't it. If you want more cushion and a defined ridge to index your hands, it is.

How to regrip a field hockey stick

  1. Peel off the old grip and clean off any leftover adhesive. The handle should be clean and dry.
  2. Peel the protective film from the small adhesive starter section only, and press it onto the handle at the lower end of the grip area.
  3. Wrap upward in a steady spiral, keeping the tension even and the overlap consistent. More overlap gives a thicker, more cushioned handle; less overlap covers more length.
  4. When the usable handle is covered, check the coverage, trim any excess, and secure the top end with one of the black finishing strips.

Because only the starter section is adhesive, you can do a dry run first: wrap the strip without peeling the film to see how far 110 cm goes on your handle at the overlap you like, then unwind and wrap for real.

Will 110 cm cover my handle?

That depends on how long your handle is and how much you overlap each turn. Measure the length you want covered before you start, and remember that heavier overlap uses up more strip. If you'd rather not trim, start with less overlap and add thickness where your hands sit.

Who it suits

Players who want a thicker, cushioned handle, or need to refresh a worn grip before training or a match. The second wrap covers a backup stick or your next regrip. Skip it if you prefer a thin, tacky feel or a chamois grip.

Some players add a wrap of tape over the finishing strip for extra hold or a color accent; a compact roll of black, red and white electrical tape works for that. More gear is under sports and outdoors.

Care

Wipe the grip with a damp cloth after muddy or wet sessions and let it air-dry. Avoid leaving the stick in a hot car for long periods, since heat is hard on any wrap and its adhesive.

Frequently asked questions

Is this field hockey grip self-adhesive?

Only partly. A small starter section at one end has adhesive under a protective film to anchor the wrap; the rest of the backing is not sticky. The included finishing strip holds the top end.

Is it a chamois grip?

No. The wrap is polyurethane (PU) with a perforated surface and a raised orange ridge. It feels cushioned and ridged rather than soft and suede-like.

How long is each field hockey grip?

Each wrap is 110 cm long and 2.5 cm wide (about 43 x 1 in). The pack has two wraps and two finishing strips.

Can I use it on an ice hockey stick?

It's made for regripping field hockey handles. It isn't cloth tape for an ice hockey blade, so it won't do that job.

How do I make the grip thicker?

Increase the overlap on each turn as you wrap. The raised center ridge already adds cushioning, and extra overlap builds more thickness, though it shortens the length you can cover.

Do I need to remove my old grip first?

The wrap is designed to replace a worn grip, so take the old one off and clean the handle. The starter adhesive holds most firmly on a clean, dry surface.

What's included in the pack?

Two black PU grip wraps and two black finishing strips. Sticks and tools are not included.
